Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) – Karma Ayurveda Hospital – Dr. Puneet Dhawan

Glomerular Filtration Rate
[Total: 1    Average: 5/5]

GFR or glomerular filtration rate is equal to the total of the filtration rates of the functioning nephrons in the kidney. GFR is considered the best way to measure kidney function which in along with albuminuria, can help in determining the extent of the kidney damage in an individual. The GFR level changes over time and is vital for performing the following activities, such as:

  • Making decisions about diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment
  • The detection of progression of CKD
  • Understanding its severity
  • The detection of kidney disease

The main point about creatinine or urea measurement to review renal function is that serum levels of both reflect GFR, the parameter that defines kidney function. A kidney disease is associated with the decrease in GFR and the severity of kidney disease correlates closely but inversely with GFR. A normal GFR of 125 mL/min is presumptive evidence of healthy and functioning kidneys. As GFR declines, the urinary excretion of urea and creatinine also declines and blood concentration of both increases.Best Kidney Disease Treatment by Ayurveda

Clues of kidney damage in low GFR

Mostly middle and old age people are prone to kidney problems. Patients at this age may face pain in the abdomen, weakness, muscle cramps, joint and back pain, change in the urine color, blood in the urine, loss of appetite, abnormal weight loss or weight gain, bad smelling urine, frequent urge to urinate and swelling in the hands and feet.

Diagnostic tests

Other recommended tests such as an ultrasound or CT scan to spot any abnormalities in the kidneys such as kidney stones. These tests can also determine if there are blockages in the urinary tract, which could also affect how well the kidneys are filtering. A kidney biopsy is another test which may be performed if the GFR is low.Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)

Kidney diet

Along with a proper Ayurvedic treatment, it is important to keep a healthy diet. A low sodium and protein diet is usually recommended for the kidney patients. Also, processed and packed food should be replaced with the freshly cooked meals. There are other necessities such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and exercise that should be included in the daily routine. Smoking, alcohol, coffee and aerated drinks should be completely cut out from the diet.

How can Ayurveda treat kidney damage due to low GFR?

Ayurvedic treatment is far better than allopathic treatment in treating kidney problems. They use unrefined herbs, organic supplements and pre-historic techniques for the treatment of disease. One of the authentic centers for kidney treatment is Karma Ayurveda which has been practicing Ayurveda since 1937. It has successfully treated thousands of kidney patients with their herbal medications and natural techniques.. Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)
